OverseedingOverseeding with Microclover
-
Seed mixture 1: 15% microclover and 85% perennial ryegrass - preferable to be sown in spring or summer to ensure a good development of clover plants before winter.
-
Seed mixture 2: 10% microclover, 70% perennial ryegrass and 20% poa pratensis - preferable to be sown in late summer.
-
Seeding rate: 2 kg pr. 100 m2.
-
To have good soil contact and to make space for clover it is recommended to verticut the turf thoroughly before overseeding.
-
If topdressing is needed in connection with overseeding, this should be done before seeding in order not to cover the clover seeds with topdressing material.
-
Overseeding can be repeated once a year until an even and satisfactory density of clover plants in the sward has been obtained.
-
The application of Nitrogen must be reduced in order to secure establishment and growth of microclover.
These recommendations are based on experiments made in Denmark 2003-2005 with establishment of microclover in existing sports fields. The trials were done at the Danish Forest and Landscape Institute, DFLRI.
