Microclover - low maintenance, no hassle!

DLF-TRIFOLIUM has developed special and very small leaved types of white clover – microclover – for use in lawns together with grasses.

Modern grass seed varieties combined with tiny microclover can produce a beautiful green lawn all year round. These microclovers produce their own fertilizer which feeds the grass to keep it healthy and green. At the same time, their deep roots reduce the need for watering. The resulting dense growth inhibits weed establishment while providing an attractive lawn.

Sowing dates

Sow lawn seed between March and October. Young grass will appear within 7-10 days under good growing conditions. Clover will appear within 21-28 days.

Sowing rates

New lawn:

35 g per sq metre (1 1/4 oz per sq. yard)

Overseeding:

25 g per sq metre (3/4 oz per sq. yard)

Mowing height

New lawn:

When grass is 5-8 cm (2-3 in) high, cut for the first time. Trim lightly and gradually lower blades to an ideal cutting height of 25 mm (1 in).

Subsequent
cuts:

Mow regularly but try not to remove more than a third of the growth at any one time.

Weeds

Do not use any type of weed killer as it will also kill the small microclovers! Any weeds will mow out and where a perennial weed does manage to establish it can be removed by hand.
