Bursa (Turkey)A PhD study by Dr Mehmet Sincik at the Uludag University was carried out in Bursa to study the effect of the inclusion of the turf type, small-leaved white clover in mixtures, in terms of colour, quality, amount of grass cuttings and N economy. Prof. Dr. Esvet Acikgoz supervised the project.
The results of plots containing turf white clover compared to plots with pure grasses were as follows:
Turf white clover plots were consistently and significantly greener with almost twice the colour rating of plots compared to plots having only pure grasses.
Turf white clover plots also showed significantly higher quality ratings - particularly in Spring, Summer and Fall.
The conclusion is that turf areas in regions having a Mediterranean climate could benefit from adding turf white clover in turf mixtures under no or low fertilizer conditions, particularly in Spring, Summer and Fall seasons.
